Lincoln Cat Care - (December News)

Although a lot slower, we are still having kittens handed in. I suspect many of these come from homes where no-one has bothered to have their litter neutered when old enough. We are called and asked to look after preggie mum until she’s produced the litter and homed them, spay her and hand her back.

It’s such a shame that they hadn’t taken up our offer to spay BEFORE she became pregnant again. Only recently we’ve been handed a baby of only about 18 months that is pregnant with her third litter, she should really only be having her first at this age, or preferably been spayed for a year.

Thanks again to Masterfoods for another generous donation of food, and to Derek’s wee boy for collecting it. Also thanks to the army of people who donate cat food to us, either singularly or in our bin at Morrison’s in Gainsborough or Waitrose in Lincoln. Thanks also to the Vets that will keep it for us.

With the onset of the darker early evenings we are seeing an increase in RTAs. Luckily many only suffer bruising or perhaps a quickening of their bowel function, but sadly we had a leg amputation to fund. The puss was back to relatively normal activity in a couple of days. It’s always an impossible decision as by removing the leg in the early days they adapt and lead a fairly normal life, whereas by trying to save it they sometimes have months of stress only to lose it in the end. We always talk it over with the vet and try to do what’s best for the patient.
Sorry for the lack of news in November but I had a bad October and so did not manage to write it.

Elya now has taken on the ‘Lost and Found’ log and she can be contacted on 01522 689912, either by phone or fax. Elya became involved when Emad went missing earlier this year. The responses she received from her adverts made her realise how large a problem it is. Welcome Elya!

There is a coffee morning at Boultham Park Library on the 9th between 9am and 12.30pm so do pop in and perhaps buy a few more raffle tickets. The 16th sees the Christmas Fayre at Birchwood Scout Hut from 10am until 2pm. This will be your last chance to buy your calendars etc before Christmas.

Thanks to everyone that has supported us and enabled so many cats to be helped. Remember, all of the money we raise goes to local cats, there’s none spent on wages or vehicles.

I hope you all have a peaceful holiday and that 2007 proves to be all that you wish it to be.
