The Birman Cat Club

The extremely well attended and most enjoyable AGM of The Birman Cat Club was held on Sunday 23rd April. Mrs Val Kilby was confirmed as Chairman for a further three years and a new Vice Chairman, Mr Malcolm Brace, was warmly welcomed back on to the Committee.

Malcolm has vast experience and knowledge of the Cat Fancy in general, as well as being a very popular breed judge and will be a most valuable asset to the Club. We will continue to benefit from retiring Vice Chairman Anne Madden’s expertise, as she restood to serve on the Committee, together with Patsy Knight, Jane Sparkes, Bob Semos and Geoffrey Tarr. Our delegates to Council are Anne and Peter Madden, joined by Val Kilby, whilst the representatives on the Birman BAC are Kathryn Robson, Patsy Knight and Val Kilby.

The meeting progressed smoothly, and the AGM Trophy presentation had been expertly organised by Theresa and Caroline Groves, with awards being presented by Anne Madden, one of the Club’s patrons. Additionally, Liz Whitby was presented with special awards from the Club and Committee after her own bred boy, Sucette Icecold Inalex, became the very first Birman with an Imperial title – though there are several more Birmans with three or four certificates, so we are sure it won’t be long before he has some illustrious company!

During the afternoon, the raffle and bric-a-brac tables earned over £200 for the Rescue, which also benefited by an additional donation of £200 and the Officers and Committee would like to thank all members for their continued support.

The next issue of the fabulous Club Magazine will be sent to all paid-up members during the summer. Please remember, should you not have paid your subscription for 2006, you will not receive a copy of the magazine, so do please contact Mrs Angela Clements, Membership Secretary (01582 833239) if this applies to you.

Dennis Hayward and Ron Mlynek will be holding a spectacular garden party at Morningside Cattery, Chapeltown, Sheffield – the date for your diary is Sunday, 30 July 2006, and it is an event not to be missed! You don’t have to be owned by a Birman to come along and have a wonderful afternoon in the company of cat friends, all are welcome.

Tickets for the raffle to be drawn at the Garden Party are now available – first prize is a Dyson Vacuum Cleaner AND a Colour Television AND a Microwave, the second prize is £300 CASH – but remember, “You’ve got to be in it to win it”. If you would like to purchase any raffle tickets, or if you would like to come along to the party, do give Ron or Dennis a call - 0114 246 0202. They will be delighted to hear from you!

Our Championship show will be held on Saturday, 4 November, at the Meadowside Leisure Centre, Burton-on-Trent, schedules will be available later in the summer from the Show Manager, Mr Roger Goodall (Tel: 01283 219813).

The ever popular After-Show Dinner will have a “black and white” theme this year, so if you would like tickets or accommodation details, please contact Anne or Peter Madden on 01993 843163 for further information. Please do not delay, as tickets and accommodation are filling up quicker than ever.
