OUR CATS and the GCCF

Our Cats regrets to announce to its loyal readers and advertisers that we have just received notice from the Executive Committee of the GCCF terminating the contract which we have held since 1983.

In a two page letter from Chairman Gordon Butler, they state:

‘after careful consideration the Executive Committee on behalf of the Council has decided to make alternative arrangements and to terminate the contract with your company’.

At the same time the GCCF has published a notice on its web site as follows:

NOTICE FROM GCCF OFFICE - 1ST AUGUST 2007.
AS FROM 1ST FEBRUARY 2008 OUR CATS WILL NO LONGER BE OUR OFFICIAL JOURNAL.
TO REPLACE OUR CATS WE INTRODUCE ‘FANCY THAT’

http://www.fancythat-cats.co.uk/

The GCCF would like to confirm that they will be publishing judges reports and GCCF notices in Our Cats until 31st January 2008.

It is important for readers to know that the GCCF has decided to place the official status and therefore its judges reports with a new publishing company as from February 1st, 2008. Up until that point OUR CATS will continue to provide readers and exhibitors with its usual comprehensive show coverage and high quality report pages which we know many of you enjoy when the paper arrives every fortnight.

Although our switch from a glossy A4 was not universally popular, what it did mean was that your show reports started to go in much more quickly than of old, or when it was published in a monthly format. With the advent of e-mails, your reports have never appeared so quickly, and with the excellent OUR CATS web site, you now have every show report archived for the last few years. Photos from shows appeared the week after the show in many instances.

Our emphasis has always been on the accurate and swift publication of the reports and we would like to thank all those judges who have submitted reports quickly, at least on time and in most cases within the four week deadline imposed by the GCCF itself. Thanks are also due to the hardy band of typesetters who have coped with the massive volumes of reports over the years....a collective sigh of relief may be heard over hot Apple Macs!

We feel sure that many people will be sorry to learn of this news and the team at OUR CATS are now considering the most appropriate course of action. We will still be featuring your reports, pictures and stories right into 2008, so please stick with us!

We are happy to continue to deal with subscriptions up to February 1st and in due course will contact everyone as to where we go from here. We are grateful to the many people who have already started to write in, now that the GCCF has made the announcement on their site.

This is a typical letter we have just received in OUR CATS offices:

It has just been brought to my attention that Our Cats will no longer be publishing the show critiques and write ups as of February next year. Can I just ask if Our Cats plan to fight this decision at all? Our Cats is a paper that we love and we have been buying since we bought our first breeding queen back in 2002. To suddenly be informed that a new magazine will be taking over what Our Cats has been doing for some years now, well I for one am extremely unhappy about the decision to suddenly start using another publication.

Perhaps all you show managers may not now have to put up with me arriving late to set up the OUR CATS stand in the future!

Best wishes to all,
Vince Hogan - OUR CATS Managing Director
