Kahler is listed today as a genre, landscape, portrait and animal painter. He was born in Linz Austria in 1855 and travelled to Berlin, Dresden, Munich, Vienna, Australia and eventually throughout the United States during his career and these tours provided much inspiration for his paintings. He first exhibited in Berlin, in 1880, and there after he exhibited on a regular basis at leading galleries in Munich and Vienna. Kahler was a New York society favourite for his pet portraits and was a highly regarded member of the Society of Independent Artists. His eye for intricate detail and technical accuracy provided the sound basis for his atmospheric works of animals.
