Our Cats Shop

From the News Desk

Gosh! Where does the time go? I’m writing this Editorial – traditionally the last thing to go in an issue – on June 21st, the Summer Solstice….

And the halfway point in the year! Just this morning I had a promotional flyer from a high street household goods store telling me all about its vast range of… wait for it… Halloween goodies! I doubt it’ll be long before the Christmas card and gift catalogues from the various animal charities start arriving too.

And of course you can tell that the kids will soon be on their long summer break – because all the “Back To School’ posters start appearing in clothes shops. Boy! That used to annoy me when I was a school kid!

Of course, in the newspaper publishing game – even in this humble, feline part of it – you get used to dealing with advance dates. Forthcoming cat shows are, of course, a large part of this and that, of course, is something that all cat fanciers have experience of too. I bet some of you are even planning what shows you’re going to in the early part of 2008.

Me? I’m already working on the OUR CATS Annual 2008. Talking of that venerable publication, if you have any ideas for articles or features, please contact me by phone, e-mail, letter or Hogwarts owl and let me know as soon as possible.

Another sign of the passage of the months is people coming and going – and this affects us at OUR CATS too. Editorial Assistant Rob Dean is leaving us for pastures new at the end of this month. Rob has been an invaluable part of the OUR CATS team over the past months and we will all miss him.

So I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank Rob for all his hard work during this time and to wish him all the very best for the future.

And it’s all change up top at the GCCF too. As we go to press, the new GCCF Committee have just met.

The new Chairman of the GCCF is Gordon Butler and Vice Chairman is John Hansson, so congratulations to both gentlemen on their new appointments and we at OUR CATS look forward to working with you in the months to come.

Best wishes too, of course, to outgoing Chairman Betty Shingleton and Vice Chairman Julia May.

Many thanks for all your hard work and help in the past, and very best wishes from OUR CATS for the future.

Well, best wrap it up for now – plenty of interesting stuff in this issue for you to read, including the first of our reports from this year’s World Cat Congress, which will continue into the next issue which, incidentally, I’m working on now. It may be June 29th for you folks, but it’s July 13th for me.

Happy Holidays! (Summer that is, not Christmas)…

Due to an unfortunate oversight, we forgot to mention the name of the Best Non Pedigree exhibit in our ‘Fantastic Four’ Show Report in the last issue (Abyssinian CA, Korat CA, Rex CA and Singapura CC joint show, held on 14 April 2007).

The winner was Blue Tortie Tabby & White female, three-year-old GYPSY, owned by Debbie Lewis. This was Gypsy’s first Best Non Ped in Show award. She is pictured here with erstwhile steward Steve Parkin.

Apologies to Debbie for the unfortunate omission, and congratulations to Gypsy for what we hope will be the first of many BIS’s to come.

New Top Officers for GCCF
On Wednesday, 20th June, the GCCF Committee met to discuss new officers’ appointments.
There were some changes to the Committee line-up, including those of the top officers’ posts.

Mr Gordon Butler becomes Chairman, taking over from Mrs Betty Shingleton. Mr John Hansson assumes the role of Vice-Chairman, previously held by Miss Julia May.

A full report of the meeting will appear in a subsequent issue of OUR CATS.

The OUR CATS Stand is due to attend the LINCOLN CC SHOW and GWYNEDD CC SHOW in July.
Come and renew or take a subscription and support OUR CATS, the only newspaper or magazine dedicated to the world of show cats and cat shows.

Please note - Lincoln CC Show has moved to the Doncaster Dome for this year.

OUR CATS looks forward to seeing you all at both shows... even if you haven’t entered, come and join everyone for a great day out in the cat fancy!
