Cat killed in washing machine

BURGLARS killed a pet cat when they put it in a washing machine during a raid at a Coventry house.

The horrifying attack happened at a young woman’s home in Sewall Highway, Wyken, in the early hours of Monday, 14 March.

Police say the cat killers may have had a grudge against its 19-year-old owner.
It is believed the offenders switched on the washing machine and left the cat to drown.
DC Bill Duke of Stoney Stanton Road police’s CID said: “This was particularly nasty.

"It’s probably a personal attack on the girl, someone trying to get their own back for whatever reason. It appears there’s no other motive than someone’s trying to get at her”.

It appears that nothing was taken in the break-in, which seems to indicate that the police theory of a grudge attack against the cat’s owner is the most likely explanation.
The RSPCA condemned the attack.

Spokeswoman, Ann Grain said: “We are always horrified that people can treat animals in the way that they do.

“We are supposed to be a nation of animal-lovers but every now and again we come up against cases like this where people are so cruel to a totally harmless and defenceless animal”.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact them at Stoney Stanton Road on 0845 113 5000.
