Oliver’s Burmese Breakfast
Young Oliver’s a connoisseur
Of cuisine that tastes divine:
Savours each bite upon his paw
In time-honoured gourmet style.
Of all these treats he’s chose the best -
From fish and fur and feather -
The food that’s prized above the rest
Whatever time or weather:
Upon his purr! his fav’rite dish -
‘Top marks to chef!’ he trills with joy:
With eyes a-light, and nose a-twitch
He scents the true, the real McCoy.
His servants serve most loyally
A table checked, (fine to wait on) -
As Ollie dines most royally
On spiced sausage, eggs and bacon!

CHINO - Cornerstone Moschino
Chino was a gentle proud cat
A Siamese of very good type
His time had come early
We both knew that.
With us he had such a short good life
He was not alone when he fell asleep
Although his going left a pain so deep
Chino has left fond memories for us both to keep.
He played with fat cats,
Thin cats and kittens galore
Could a cat like Chino have asked for more?
Chino was smart, and the boss
To us both he is a great loss.
If he could talk now I’m sure he would say
“No tears, remember me each day”.
Although now he can’t be seen
In spirit as a bright star he will gleam.
It’s not the last I have seen of Chino,
My sweet proud gentle boy.
As a sparkling star I can see him each night
He will look down on us from above
Where felines always shine bright.
Remember when your beloved cat enters your life
You are unaware of any sadness or strife
Cats will give you many hours of bliss
So hug and cuddle them with all your might
As you can never know...
It could be their very last kiss.

Our Joe
Our Joe is a white Turkish Van
And to scare us he works to a plan:
Under sofas and beds,
In cupboards and sheds,
He hides from us whenever he can.

The Essex Cat Club finds a new home
ONE of the biggest headaches facing Show Managers these days is finding a big enough venue for the Show at a price which proves viable on the balance sheet and means a reasonable entry charge for exhibitors.
The Essex has had its share of venue trouble. With Pickets Lock closing after so many years, we were forced to look elsewhere. We found the Sports Centre in Harlow, and we thought our problems were over. Being sports orientated and not leisure, the fact that there were no eating facilities caused a problem. With no bacon butties in the morning after the long drive and, God forbid, no chips, this became a very big issue. We struggled with this venue, but in the end they tried to throw us out three-months before the show. It appeared that the fit of Harlow did not like cats. We managed to get them to change their minds for that year, but we were back at square one looking for a venue.
We finally had a bit of luck when our Vice-Chairman, Ted Jones, was told about Towerlands at Braintree in Essex. The hunt was on, and we went up to have a look at what was on offer. Towerlands had previously been known as an Equestrian Centre and had been in business for quite a number of years. It had now changes hands and was being refurbished to a high standard.
The management team are extremely helpful and eager to help. They want to have this place booked out throughout the year. There are various halls of varying sizes to choose from. Plenty of free parking right outside the door. Facilities for the disabled are to a high standard, as required by law now. Access for stallholders couldn’t be easier. If you have squeezed down that side entrance at Harlow, you would know what I mean!!
Catering will be open first thing in the morning for those arriving early and needing breakfast. The food looks good and seemed to be reasonable priced. Chips are back folks!
For those of you who like to shop, there is a Designer Outlet ten minutes away or, if you like horses, I believe there is an equestrian event on the same day.
As you can see, we have tried very hard to please most of the people most of the time. So why not try it, we shall have our usual brand of fun and aim to give everyone a good day out. See you there?
Chairman Mo
The show will be held on 9th April, 2005. Schedules will be sent to last year’s exhibitors - others please send an SAE to the Show Manager.
