LIQUIVITE - liquid foods for cats and dogs
SOME changes have been made to Liquivite - some visible and others not immediately obvious - with the aim of further improving the product. Liquivite is used increasingly by breeders, who find it a most useful weaning food for kittens. It allows the introduction of meats into their diet, but in a familiar liquid form, thus easing the transition to solids.
The less obvious improvements are the most important. First a pre-biotic is now included in the recipe which feeds the beneficial bacteria in the gut, allowing them to proliferate. This stabilises the gut, helps to improve stood quality, nutrient absorption from the intestine, and improve immunity. A small amount of fish oil is also added, which supplies the important Omega 3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA. These both boost the cat’s immun e system, and are anti-inflammatory. Rosemary is also used, a natural anti-oxidant. Essential vitamins and minerals are incorporated, at levels suitable for cats in “stress” situations - weaning, breeding, illness, convalescence, post-operative and old age.
A more visible change is that Liquivite is now made with entirely fresh meat ingredients. A small amount of meat meal was previously used in the recipe. The reason for this change is that fresh meat has less of a thickening effect than a meat meal, rather like an all-meat consommé compared to a cream soup. This makes it much easier to syringe than a more viscous liquid, an advantage veterinarians and their nurses much prefer. The thinner liquid does not mean that Liquivite is any less nutritious - in fact it is improved by being made with meats that are 100% fresh.
