Scottish Cat Club

Our AGM was held on Sunday, 17 April 2005 at the BBC Club in Glasgow.
Officers and Committee Members remain unchanged, as follows: Miss Pamela Read (Chairman), Mr Ian Thomson (Vice-Chairman), Miss Gillian Greer (Hon Treasurer), Ms Elisabeth Stark (Hon Secretary & Show Support Secretary), Mrs Caroline Thomson (Membership Secretary), Ms Elizabeth Stewart, Mrs Margaret Bowes, Mr Lenny Pontello, Mr Tommy McIlree, Mrs Linda McIlree, Miss Moira Kim (Trophy Secretary) and Miss Lorraine Pontello (Website Manager). In addition, we welcomed Mrs Pam Goldie to the Committee as a co-opted Member.

The Committee had proposed one minor change to the Club rules, and this was ratified by the AGM. We also returned to awarding trophies at the AGM, and they made a very fine display - congratulations to the owners of the winning cats. After the formal business of the meeting was concluded, those present enjoyed a light lunch and a raffle. The raffle was very able managed by Dougie Taylor and raised £69 for the Club funds. Our thanks to the Club Members who attended this meeting, and for the generous donations of raffle prizes.

The Committee is very keen that the Club caters well for all its Members, and we had a very good discussion about this at the AGM. Members made a lot of suggestions for website content, the show, and possible social events. We would really like to hear the views of as many Members as possible, and have put a short questionnaire on our website (www.scottishcatclub.co.uk) based on the discussion at the AGM. Please send your thoughts and ideas to me at scottishcatclub@hotmail.com or 7 Roman Avenue, Bearsden, Glasgow G61 2QW. We look forward to hearing from you.

Ocicat BAC
I have been asked to remind Candidates that the BAC would like all Ocicats judged at a show to be placed in order of preference, together with the reasons for those placings.

The BAC also requests that Candidates ensure that the points of the SoP are given full consideration as although coat and pattern are essential qualities of the breed, the type is of equal importance and should not be given less priority.

I would like to advise Candidates on the Ocicat Scheme that item 24q of the Ocicat Constitution and Rules of Procedure has been amended and now reads as follows - “Prior to applying for promotion, the candidate must complete a minimum of 8 engagements at Championship, Sanction or Specialist Breed Club Exemption shows, which shall include the following classes:

at least 5 Open classes, or their equivalent (see j and k above), plus sufficient other classes to provide critiques on 10 different Ocicat Adult, Kitten or Neuter. (NB: A Kitten Open Class which is split by age or sex may only be counted as a single class).”
Hilary Dean, Hon Secretary

The Birman BAC

The Birman BAC Seminar ‘All About Birmans’ is to be held on Sunday, 3 July 2005 at Wheathampstead Memorial Hall, near St Albans, Hertfordshire, commencing at 12.30pm (lunch). (Vetting-in 12 noon).

Tickets are now available at £8 each, this includes a substantial lunch and afternoon tea; prepared by Mr Ron Pike (which I understand promises to be rather good!).

We are fortunate to have GCCF Steward, Irene Roos, who will be explaining the ‘Do’s and Don’ts of Stewarding’, how to handle a Birman for the judge, in fact anything you ever wanted to know about stewarding! So, if you have considered stewarding and would like to learn more, then please come along.

Senior breeder judges will be giving their opinion on what makes a show cat (to include tips on grooming, faults, etc).

We intend to have the rather more unusual colour combinations of the Birman cat present, as well as a few traditional ones! An opportunity for Probationer Judges to assess some of these colours will be provided during the lunch period.

Please send an SAE to me at 2 Burnham Road, Coombe Lane, Hughenden Valley, Bucks HP14 4NY. Tel. 01494 565383.
Jane Tackley (Mrs), Seminar Organiser

Joint Rex BAC

The Standard of Points of both Cornish and Devon Rex have been amended and come into effect as of 1 June 2005.

Points to note are highlighted with the biggest addition being the introductions which was felt should be made more descriptive, thus helping to give a better understanding of the general standard that typifies each breed. Copies of these have been posted to all Candidates and Full Judges together with the Standard of Points for LaPerm and Selkirk Rex. With the introduction of these two new breeds the BAC want to ensure that the distinctive type of both Devon and Cornish Rex is retained and a letter sent to Candidates has also been posted to Full Judges of the breeds.

I would like to advise Candidates on the scheme that items 24q; 24u(i); 24v(i) of the Joint Rex Constitution and Rules of Procedure have been amended. The words “in excess of” have now been deleted with regard to the number of critiques required for Devon Rex.

The Joint Rex BAC will be holding a Rex Seminar, which will include all Rex breeds catered for by the BAC, namely Cornish Rex, Devon Rex, LaPerm and Selkirk Rex. The event will take place in 2006, and full details will be in a future edition of Our Cats.
