Actress extols virtues of volunteers at PDSA

ACTRESS Sue Nicholls, also known as Audrey Roberts in Coronation Street, is backing the Year of the Volunteer. As well as regularly fronting appeals for her favourite veterinary charity, PDSA, Sue has filmed a feature for ITV programme, Britain on the Move. In this feature which was broadcast on Tuesday, 19 April, Sue discussed the benefits of volunteering and the fantastic work volunteers do for charities.

PDSA provides free treatment to sick and injured pets of people in need. Currently over 4,600 people give their time freely by volunteering in PDSA shops, fundraising groups, PetAid hospitals and administration offices.

Sue Nicholls said: “I have been a supporter of leading veterinary charity, PDSA, for many years and help whenever I can. Every time I visit a PDSA PetAid hospital, shop or fundraising event, I am overwhelmed by the generosity and commitment of the people who volunteer for PDSA”.

"Through the work they do, volunteers save PDSA over £5 million pounds every year. And they raise much more, which all supports the charity’s vital treatment of 4,650 sick and injured pets every working day. The Year of the Volunteer is an excellent initiative that raises the profile of the work volunteers are already doing. Hopefully it will also help to recruit thousands more volunteers”.
