SOME of you may remember me mentioning Carol and Russell with their cat Lincoln, who they sadly lost.
Well, good news on that front. In spite of saying no more, they now have Smokey, a beautiful shorthaired black tortoiseshell girl. Strangely enough, she is actually Lincoln’s litter sister; three female kittens were born in our local park. They found themselves being fed by a local man who couldn’t persuade them indoors.
Lincoln, a SLH tabby, found her own home as you know, the other tortoiseshell SLH disappeared, and Smokey still turned up for food. Although she wouldn’t go indoors, the man thought she might settle with Carol andRussell, even if only as an outdoor cat.
However, she did exactly as her sister had done; after she was put in the garden and shown the food and litter tray in the conservatory, she went through the kitchen and into the lounge. There she claimed Russell’s armchair, which is now exclusively hers. Lincoln preferred the sofa, as she could have two adoring acolytes - one each side. Smokey prefers to be a queen ruling over her subjects in solitary splendour!
On a personal, and very sad note, I would like all his fans to know of the demise of Erik, my Red Burmese boy. He had not been the same since I lost Fanny and Gemma (his half-sisters). He pined dreadfully, but what carried him off was a bowel tumour. He was put to sleep on 20 September 2005, to end the suffering he would have had.
I miss him dreadfully as he chose me all those years ago when I had actually gone to look at a blue girl.
All who knew him loved him instantly - he wouldn’t let you do otherwise.
Sleep well my darling and wake refreshed to climb amongst the apple and pear blossoms again.
