Sandra McHugo, a supporter of the Capricorn Animal Rescue, sent me the following story of ‘Mac’.

Sandra said:

“Mac the kitten, unbelievably, was dunked into hot tar! He was handed into the Capricorn Animal Rescue Centre with tarmac all over him; it was even in his eyes and ears. The vet said his chances of survival were slim and advised Sheila Stewart (who runs the C.A.R.) to put Mac to sleep.

Sheila thought that he should be given a chance as he had survived the initial assault and deserved to be saved if possible. So, Mac spent three days at the vet’s surgery whilst they re-hydrated him and treated him for shock.

Now, over a month later he is doing well and had been vaccinated. The tar is being removed, little by little. He still has no whiskers or eyelashes but his feet are now back to their normal size – they had been like golf balls with the swelling, caused by his skin reacting to the tar. Amazingly, he is very ‘laid back’ with people and we only hope he has no memory of his ordeal”.

Another success story from Capricorn concerns two kittens that were abandoned in a bowl, outside the Capricorn shop, one very wet Sunday night. When they were found, they were almost drowned in the rain that had collected in the bowl.

These two mites, Tammy and Rooster were foster by Sandra who told OUR CATS: “The kittens were brought to me on the Monday morning. They had been dried off but were very cold. They could have only been two or three days old. I put the radiator on and settled them in the warm. I fed them with Royal Canin Baby Milk, which I highly recommend for hand rearing. They are doing well now and I look forward to getting them weaned”.

Another two kittens (see photo) survived a fire and now look well, thanks to Capricorn!
