OUR OUR CATS readers are very aware of the fantastic work that the Feline Advisory Bureau (FAB) undertakes and now there is a super way that readers can offer their thanks to FAB, by way of using your mobile phone to give an instant donation!

The Feline Advisory Bureau is the first animal charity in the UK to use SMS text messaging to raise funds…inspired by the way Live8 used texting, FAB has joined a scheme run by Justgiving, the UK’s leading provider of online fundraising services. Justgiving enables charities large and small to collect donations by text message simply and cost-effectively.

From August 2005, anyone wanting to support FAB simply has to text the word ‘cat’ to 83338 to make a donation of £3.00.

Donors will receive two confirmation messages, each charged at £1.50p. FAB will receive the donation net of charges applied by mobile network operators, VAT and a processing fee.
“We already influence the care of 1 million cats a year, and through the use of text messaging we hope to make it easy for cat lovers of all ages to support us,” said Chief Executive of FAB, Claire Bessant.

FAB supports residencies in feline medicine at UK veterinary schools to provide a referral service for owners and information for vets in practice.

It is famous for providing a wealth of health information for cat owners - available online at www.fabcats.org - over 60,000 visit the site every month.
